This International Women’s Day we come together with one unified voice to recognise and amplify the important role women and girls around the world play in addressing climate change. The theme for 2022 is ‘Changing Climates: Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ and after the devastating floods that ravished our beautiful community here in the Northern Rivers, this theme couldn’t be closer to our hearts.

the untamed artist
A moment with Amy Savanna, the artist behind the rings.Arriving at the beautiful cottage of the young local jeweller, Amy Savanna, we are greeted by a white picket fence surrounded by a blossoming daisy bush. The idyllic property is overflowing with creativity - the loft upstairs where Amy creates her unique jewellery, the walls adorned with incredible paintings on old pieces of wood, a hammock swing covered in the pieces of what will soon be a rainbow knitted jumper, and the artbook on the table outside filled with delicate drawings of native flowers. It’s safe to say that Amy is an artist in the entirety of all that this word encompasses - an endless creator. Her passion for art runs through her veins, passed down matrilineally from generation to generation and it is through her work that Amy endeavours to honour the women before her. We spent the day in Amy’s studio, sat beneath a round stained glass window, watching her create intricate rings and barefoot in the paddock talking incessantly about everything and nothing at all. Join us for a moment with Amy Savanna.

for the love of horses
For those of you who don’t know her, Ebony Eagles is our beautiful founder and MD here at Auguste The Label. Inspired by a love of all things vintage, Ebony created Auguste in 2015 - designing timeless pieces that would become those vintage wardrobe must-haves in the future. Ebs is an absolute force of nature: mother of two gorgeous girls, she is still one of the first in the office and the last to leave every day. Our latest collection Mare, featured Ebony’s horses, something she has wanted to do for a long time. Horses have always been very dear to Ebs and it was such an incredible experience to bring two of her passions together in Mare. Our latest campaign, Mare, is so beautiful (if we do say so ourselves) and features two of your horses. What are those horses’ names? Tell us a little bit about them?
The two horses in this Campaign’s names are Teddy and Zora. Teddy, the big hairy guy is my horse and Zora is my eldest daughter Coco’s… AKA mine also haha. If Teddy were a human he’d be a really cheeky 5-year-old boy who’s obsessed with food and really just lives for cuddles. Zora is like a sweet-natured, little angel with a wicked sense of humour… kind of like her owner, Coco!

moments of inspiration with fredrika akander
You know those people you meet, who have a story that has you thinking…wow? Meet Sweden-born, Australian-based, philanthropist, style guru and content queen, Fredrika Akander. While completing her postgraduate degree, Fredrika discovered an epidemic of young women, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa missing school due to lack of access to sanitary products, some even putting themselves in danger. So, Fredrika started ‘Menstruation With Dignity’, working towards sexual education and providing sanitary items predominantly in Africa. Amazing, right? Now, with a baby on the way - we sat down with Fredrika and what can we say, we were totally in awe of her.

the love language of food
Jess is the perfect example of ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade'. After being made redundant during the height of the pandemic, Jess took this as an opportunity to become the go-to source on social media for delicious recipes. Food has always been a part of Jess’s family, it is their way of connecting and celebrating and a sort of catharsis for Jess, so to speak. We caught up with Jess to discuss her food journey, recent collaborations, and to get all of the inspiration on just how to put together the perfect Christmas spread.

returning to nature: brook powers
The ultimate cool-girl, Brook Power oozes a relaxed attitude and a laid back Californian approach to, well, just about everything. Mother of two, successful model, surfer, artist and 2017’s Playboy Playmate of the Year - Brook has her fingers in a few pies. She originally grew up on the North Shore of Oahu and, go figure, she’s a total nature junky. Despite a pretty rough upbringing, Brook has maintained her positive outlook on life and continues to take on each day with gratitude and self-awareness.Meet Brook Power. You grew up in Hawaii, on the North Shore of Oahu...Jealous! Tell us a little bit about your childhood there?
My family situation was an interesting one, my mom was a bratty Sicilian/ L.A. girl and my dad was an L.A. surf bum. I was the oldest kid and I was always the ring leader. I took everyone on adventures, exploring caves and climbing mountains, riding horses, catching fish, hiking to secret tidepools, swimming with whales, all the blessed Hawaii-kid activities. Growing up in Hawaii was really such a dream, we had so much freedom. I retreated into the ocean and jungle to escape our heavy home environment. The ocean definitely raised me in many ways, taught me to be strong but soft. It was a blessed existence despite our situation, we were really happy, resilient kids, we made our lives magical.

the good, the bad & the growth
Talk about a strong, independent woman. Our muse, Vanessa Breuer is not only a beautiful, working mum, but is also one tough cookie. Originally from Germany, where she grew up with her mother, older brother and the support of her uncle and grandmother. Vanessa found comfort surrounding herself by nature and her beloved horses, a love she now shares with her children. We absolutely adored working with Vanessa and were so humbled that she shared her story with us - the good, the bad and the strength she gained from both. You grew up in Germany before beginning your life as a traveller at 19. Tell us a bit about your childhood growing up in Germany. What are things from your childhood that you have ensured you have shared with your children too?
I grew up in a small town near cologne. My parents split when I was 4 or 5 so I grew up with my mother and older brother. My grandmother was usually at home helping my mother out and we always cooked and baked. I used to love helping them and spending time with them in the kitchen. When I was 5 I started horseback riding and I would try to spend as much time at the stables as possible. I was very independent from a young age and loved spending time in nature or playing in our backyard. Every Sunday we would go for hikes in nearby forests; it is a very German thing to do as all shops are closed on Sundays. Then we would come home and eat cake :) My favourite part. I tried to keep this tradition in our family, even before we had kids but it didn’t work so well hahaha. I remember when I lived in Australia I tried to get Oddy out of the surf on Sundays for cake time and he was like mmhhhhh why would I eat cake now? I will keep trying!

valeria harris - becoming a mother
Determined, intuitive and honest - are the three words that spring to mind when we think of Valeria Harris. This natural, Swiss beauty is the mother to the sweetest curly-haired bub, with another on the way. After spending several years living in Florida where she met her husband, Valeria has returned home to Switzerland to share with her children the beautiful childhood she experienced growing up there. An absolute force of nature, Valeria has recently begun her studies in the field of social work, following in both of her parent's footsteps. We sat down with Valeria to find out how she does it all, discuss the difficult task of sharing your time evenly between your children and your husband, and the women that have remained her rocks through difficult times. You grew up in Switzerland and have recently moved back after many years living in Florida. Tell us a bit about your childhood growing up in Switzerland. What are things from your childhood that you are looking forward to sharing with your children?
Yes, that was actually one of the many reasons we wanted to move back to Switzerland because it’s truly a country that offers so many activities for kids and parents. Now with winter coming, I look forward to introducing Emma to snowboarding. It was something I used to do a lot and as we all know, kids learn so quickly. I hope this is something she will be able to do and enjoy for the rest of her life. I’m really excited for Emma to grow because the older she gets the more we will be able to do (like hiking for example).
