AWAY WITH AUGUSTE: FREDRIKA AKANDER

Paris

It’s been said once, it’ll be said a thousand times: Paris is always a good idea. Follow us through the sun-dappled streets with Fredrika (@fakander) as she lounges in the Luxembourg Gardens, thumbs through vintage books and brushes up on French in her new Voyage picks.

Which is more you: plan well in advance or book last minute?

Last minute. I tend to get flights in advance if there is a good deal on but I usually book accommodation a few days before arriving.

Best area to stay in Paris?

I love to stay in the 6th Arrondissement around Saint-Germain-des-Prés – perfectly within walking distance to both the river Seine and all the cute little corner cafes, as well as the Luxembourg Gardens.

Any essential French phrases?

I try to always greet in French and Merci beaucoup goes a long way!

Top three travel essentials?

Daily moisturiser with sunscreen (I love Alpha-H 50 spf or their daily essential spf 15 for winter), portable power bank, and a book for long flights and layovers.

Absolute favourite French snack?

I love arriving in France in the morning. First thing I do is order a traditional breakfast with fresh orange juice, a coffee and a piece of freshly baked bread with butter and raspberry jam. It's to die for! And a pain au chocolate for dessert of course!

If we had 24-hours in Paris, where should we go?

Start your day early in the Luxembourg Gardens whilst it’s still quite empty. I can spend HOURS in this park! Then breakfast in the 6th arrondissement, walk down towards the water and walk along the Seine to Ile St Louis. It is my favourite little area in Paris, it has so much history! After that I'd make my way over to Marais for shopping and make sure to stop and look at all the little mini book stands along the upper walkway along the Seine. Spend the afternoon around Palais Royal or maybe even make your way to Montmartre and just walk around the hill. Of course, if it is your first time in Paris you'd have to see the tourist attractions such as the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysee! If you're visiting in summer, grab some food and a bottle of wine and have a picnic by the river!

Favourite way to wear Auguste?

In Australia I wear my Auguste with boots and a felt hat, but for Parisian summers just light sandals and a straw bag!

Where else are you travelling this year?

I'm off to Hawaii in a few weeks for the first time! Cannot wait to check out the legendary North Shore!
