For those of you who don’t know her, Ebony Eagles is our beautiful founder and MD here at Auguste The Label. Inspired by a love of all things vintage, Ebony created Auguste in 2015 - designing timeless pieces that would become those vintage wardrobe must-haves in the future. Ebs is an absolute force of nature: mother of two gorgeous girls, she is still one of the first in the office and the last to leave every day. Our latest collection Mare, featured Ebony’s horses, something she has wanted to do for a long time. Horses have always been very dear to Ebs and it was such an incredible experience to bring two of her passions together in Mare.
Our latest campaign, Mare, is so beautiful (if we do say so ourselves) and features two of your horses. What are those horses’ names? Tell us a little bit about them?
The two horses in this Campaign’s names are Teddy and Zora. Teddy, the big hairy guy is my horse and Zora is my eldest daughter Coco’s… AKA mine also haha. If Teddy were a human he’d be a really cheeky 5-year-old boy who’s obsessed with food and really just lives for cuddles. Zora is like a sweet-natured, little angel with a wicked sense of humour… kind of like her owner, Coco!
How did you come up with the concept for this campaign? What was the inspiration behind it?
I've wanted to incorporate my horses into a shoot for a while now and we wanted to keep this shoot local, so the timing was right. When shooting, we really wanted to capture their natural beauty and total ease of existence. It was important that the models had shared this same kind of vulnerability as them and were really comfortable with horses so that we could achieve this. It all worked out really well, the girls were super chilled and so were the horses... It was heaps of fun having them there :)
It is well known amongst our Auguste family that you have a deep love for horses, tell us a little bit about this special connection? What is it about horses that you love so much? Did you ride as a child too?
Since as far back as I remember I’ve felt a really deep connection with horses. My parents had them when I was really young and apparently, I would just stand in between their legs brushing their tummies, always completely comfortable. I had a horse as a teenager which is when I really formed my obsession… but it was never about pony club or even saddles, it was always a bareback riding on the beach . Sometimes I’d just walk my horse to the beach like a dog, chatting to him the whole way!! Haha The magic of horses to me is in their vulnerability, they are naturally hunted animals, so fearful by nature and demand huge respect and caution due to their sheer size and power, yet they can be kind and willing and the bond you can share with a horse is pure magic. Most days the first thing I do when I get home from work is, go and hug my horse - I swear roots shoot out of my feet and straight into the ground when I do that.
Is riding a passion that you get to share with your daughters? Do they also have an innate love for them like you do?
They do yes, it's very sweet and a huge relief as a horse loving mother! Haha. It was something I shared with them when they were both quite young, and their love for horses has just continued to grow as they got older. I’m so grateful that we get to ride together, especially being lucky enough to have our horses on our property.
2021 was a little bit of a roller coaster ride, with high highs and some low lows. What is 2022 looking like for you?? What are you most looking forward to?
These last few years have been crazy, it is a very surreal time. Personally, I can't wait for 2022. I have a really clear vision of where I want to take the business and feel genuinely excited to get started! I'm looking forward to it all :)
And finally, it’s a tough choice, but what is your favourite piece from the Mare collection? How would you style it this season?
Adeline Andrea Maxi Dress - this dress, to me, is so quintessentially Auguste. I adore it. I love to style it with a crochet hat and beach bag.
