“No shoes, no news.” That’s the motto at Gili Lankanfushi – the otherworldly Maldives island that set the scene for our BASK campaign shoot. From wading through aquamarine waters to hanging ten on the closest waves, the island offers endless opportunities to distract you from emails and headlines – which, let’s face it, really can wait.
For all those feeling the wanderlust from our BASK campaign, we’ve put together a list of activities at Gili Lankanfushi not to be missed.
Plan wisely (and don’t forget to lose the shoes!).
PLANT CORAL
Help rehabilitate a coral reef by joining in the Coral Line Project. Led by the island’s two marine biologists, the project involves nursing small pieces of coral on rope lines suspended under water and later transplanting them to the house reef to support conservation.
JUNGLE CINEMA
Spend a night watching the stars under the stars. You can find a lounger and a couple hours of cinematic distraction immersed in nature at the island’s unique outdoor Jungle Cinema.
CATCH A WAVE
With some of the best breaks in the region at its doorstep, Gili Lankanfushi is the perfect place for a spot of surfing. Whether you’re a beginner or all too familiar with a board, the team can tailor just the right experience for you. Add tropical temperatures, subtract the crowds. Yep, that’s our kind of activity.
SUNRISE YOGA
Morning sun, an ocean backing track and a bit of inner peace. What’s a week of island rest without a little yoga? Gili Lankanfushi hosts daily yoga classes right at the seaside, which really has to be the best way to start the day.
DOLPHIN SPOTTING
We’re always spotting dolphins around Byron Bay and any opportunity to watch them playing in the surf is one we can’t pass up. Just a short, relaxing cruise from Gili Lankanfushi, you can see hundreds of the resident Spinner Dolphins as they make their way out of the atoll to fish at night. Oh, and did we mention there are canapés and champagne on hand for the sunset outing?
